i got that reference
I HAVE JUST WATCHED THAT CASTLE SEASON FIVE EPISODE WITH THE SCI-FI CONVENTION AND MY FANDOM CUP OF JOY HAS OVERFLOWED.

So many shows have episodes set in conventions, or a tv studio, or a circus, or so on, and however much they try it turns out cheesey. The writers of Castle though, they get it, and I don't just mean fandom (although what Kate says near the end about it, I loved that). (This is a show with spin off novels and graphics novels as written by a character in the show. They get fandom.) I mean they get that the point of these episodes isn't just to laugh at the oddities of these 'other places', it's to laugh with the joy of the people who love being in them. So, so many Firefly references, Avengers references, Joss Whedon references, so many sci-fi shows mentioned and fandom sayings in there, and everywhere. I want to rewatch it just to admire the detail in the costumes chosen and the background details just as much as the things thrown straight at the audience. It's obvious that the writers and makers of this episode had so much fun making it. And that translated to me having incredible amounts of fun watching it.

Dad has watched Firefly, Serenity (I enable offline just as much as online *grins*), and Avengers so he caught quite a few things (I was proud). But I still kept laughing and wanting so much to point things out that wouldn't have meant anything to anyone else in the room, so if anyone would like to squee with me over the wondefulness that was that episode then I'll be over here. Looking for something bigger than a cup for my fandom joy (and more than happy to have to be doing so).

I still need to watch...all of season 5 of Castle. I've seen the 100th and that's it. Once I get caught up (which might take all summer), I'll come flail with you. I was way too busy this year for watching TV, which is sad because Castle's the only show I'll currently watch in "real-ish" time. Glad to hear you enjoyed it though! :D

I've been avoiding anyone on the internet talking about it, because the UK seemed to get season 5 ages after everyone else, meh, but I had to flail at people about this one - SO GOOD :D

OMG..... I ADORE that episode. I seriously have tried to get everyone I know to watch that one, I'm like... "I know, I know you think Castle sucks, but NOT THIS EPISODE, I'M TELLING YOU"

Is it not awesome?

Haha, I've been going round all my friends that I've made watch Firefly and the Avengers and who like Joss Whedon going YOU REALLY NEED TO WATCH CASTLE, NO, REALLY. I laughed so much during that episode and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that even though it was an episode designed to make me laugh it was laughing with the writers, not at some group they were targetting as odd or anything, and that the episode still had heart, with the little speech by Kate near the end about why she liked being involved in fandom and loved the show, and still had a mystery that held water.

It was made of awesome :D
