it's that most wonderful time of the year
In which I am crazy busy organsing things for Christmas and the New Year, meeting up with family and friends (from those that I see a lot of and want to see MORE of to those that come out of the woodwork when Christmas is in the air), and still trying to do work and all that jazz. A bit of an update:

> I saw The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Wednesday and The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug today and geeked out over both of them. A lot. Seriously brilliant films.

> I've read World After and Steelheart recently, both excellent YA novels, and I'm currently reading Zoo City (as lent to me by franztastisch), which has fascinating world building going on.

> I've had a work Christmas doo, which had naff food, a good DJ, and a very good live band, and was free, at which I proved once again that alcohol is not required to get up and dance like you mean it *grins*.

> I've done almost all my shopping, but none of my wrapping. I still need to write out, and make, some Christmas cards. And we have no decorations up yet!

> Next week is a trip to the Manchester Christmas Markets (which I've seen many times since I'm always going to Manchester and you can't miss the markets (no, really, they've invaded), but this will be a meet up to actually go around them. There's also a work Secret Santa. And lots of family visiting. And Dead Bird Day (aka Christmas Eve, which begins with collecting the Dead Birds (or, y'know, turkeys), and then has visiting lots of family and a Midnight Mass that isn't at midnight).

> I'm finishing work on the 19th!

> Oh, yeah, and there's this thing called Secret Santa at be_compromised that you may have heard of. It's going to be fantastical!

You're reading Zoo City!! YEYEYEYEY!! It's so, so good. And South African! That alone makes me love it. Oh man, I hope you enjoy it. I haven't read Ragnarok yet, but I enjoyed The Rook enough to buy it as a birthday present for my friend. :D

I'm really enjoying it - very atmospheric, LOVE the world building, excited to see where it's all going!

Also we had a geek day yesterday to see the Hobbit, and it's the group that I've been doing cons with and those floating comic fairs that we go to. I brought up maybe going to the comics fair when it's on Leeds or York or somewhere nearer your neck of the woods. We have to wait until Jan to see when the dates are and it wouldn't be early next year because of lack of monies, but interested at some point next year in coming comics shopping and geek chatting with me, Laura, and two or three others? Also we are definitely going to Manchester comic con next year if you're interested in joining, and me and Laura definitely want to do Thought Bubble again, and some might do London, either summer or october but we don't know yet. Oh yeah, we have plans for next year already LOL.

Yey! So glad you're liking it.

I would love a comics fair/geekery trip, that sounds wonderful. :D And Manchester, London and Leeds all sound great, and I'm definately up for going. Plus I have people to stay with/help with putting people up in all those places (some I know better than others but that is totally not the point) so I think, with reasonable warning, I can help out on that front as well. Now I just have to think up costumes! I want to go as Bobbi Morse. And Carol. And Lady Thor. And ALL THE PEOPLE. :D

I keep seeing all these people squeeing over The Hobbit and it's not out in Australia until Boxing Day. *whines* I wanna see it!

I'm so excited about Secret Santa.

Aww, film. Once again Peter Jackson and the team have delivered. I really, really enjoyed it. Especially the barrels scene. And Martin Freeman is so very Bilbo. You'll have to go as a Christmas/New Year trip!

Things are starting to be submitted and things are starting to get banners and posting organisation and it's all very squeeeee :D
