Books and Mentions of a Dodo

This morning I had a tutorial that was not on the topic I thought it was going to be.  When asked for my opinion on a theme I hadn't read about I offered up ideas on freedom from Maragaret Atwood's 'The Handmaid's Tale'.  Who says novels are only good for Literature degrees?

Has anyone read 'Wild Swans' by Jung Chang' and would like to squee about it with me?  I just finished reading it this afternoon.  I love how it reads like an historically factual fantasy story told to you by someone in a quiet library and is all true.

Also I finished a sort-of sequel to 'Keeping Childhood's Creatures', which I wasn't sure I was even going to write, and emailed it off to be beta-ed.  It has Luna Lovegood and Rolf Scamander in a bar in Mauritius.  There is a dodo, or rather mentions of a dodo since I didn't think dodos would really be in a bar.

Wild Swans - One of My Fav Books
Hi

I have read the book and was so moved that I met the author afterwards in London. The book is banned in China. The author subsequently wrote another book (Mao: The Unknown Story) with her husband Jon Halliday - this book too was banned in China. The second book is shocking and reveals what a monster Mao but is not a smooth read like Wild Swans - you should be politically inclined to finish reading it.

Re: Wild Swans - One of My Fav Books
Oh wow. I've never met any of my favourite authors, but then I don't think I'd know what to say if I did!

It doesn't surprise me really that the book is banned in China, people and politics being what they are, but it's still a real shame.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for a copy of 'Mao' - I'm not overly poltically minded (or at least I don't think so), but there's a lot of academic debate about the future of China at the moment, which is interesting, but I like to look back first.

Oh, I don't know, I think dodos have their place in bars... And I would love to read about Luna and Rolf Scamander! I haven't seen many fics for them.

Huh, no Rolf? Well, that'll have to be remedied. Just waiting to hear back from a lovely beta on that one.

Hmm, and now I wonder if I could write a fic about a dodo in a bar... *chases plot bunnies and shoves them back in their little cage* Need to finish uni essays and Valentine's fic first, yep yep.

Aren't plot bunnies such pesky little things? If you want to get rid of a few, I have a prompt request on my journal- I feel the need to write!

I look forward to see what you come up with about Rolf.
